Leadership Styles and Their Effects in Barbara Queally: A 180 in Leadership Style
Epilogue
Initially, Queally (2018) used an authoritarian/autocratic leadership style to run her
business. According to the case, Queally made demands of her employees and expected them to
fulfil all of her visions without caring about their opinions or concerns. While her "Do as I say
attitude" got the work done. Queally could not utilize her employee's creativity, which is why her
business became more profitable when she changed her leadership style. The authoritarian style
is only profitable for one individual, usually the boss, who gets to share their ideas and execute
them. Employees with ambition will often leave this kind of employment to opt for workplaces
where their creativity will be engaged. The aforementioned style was ineffective, which is why
the case talks about a 180 change in leadership style.
Participative leadership style; After Queally (2018) went "back to school" and discovered
that her leadership style was too authoritarian, one of the styles she used was the participative
leadership style, which was highly effective. Participative leadership is embedded within the
democratic theory, and its purpose is to make sure that team members take part in the process of
decision making (2021, May). Garden Morris Packaging and food got a financial boost once the
participative style was employed. The employees felt motivated, heard and showed a new kind of
enthusiasm that led to a high level of productivity.
