“The Salem Witchcraft Scare”
1. Summarize the basic outline of the events at Salem as laid out in the “Introduction.”
According to contemporary wisdom, Witches entered into a pact with satan and thereby acquired
supernatural powers which they used to harm other people and different individuals were
accused of performing such ritual. And because a lot of people were being accused, it causes
withcraft scare that become associated with the town of Salem where the outbreak began in 1692.
The withcraft scare began when group of adolescent girls and young women who pursue effort to
learn for the future, fell into strange fits and a physician diagnosed them as work of witch, hich
then starts the “witch hunt”. With no legitimate government, the colony’s leader decided to put
in jail all of the accused since they are still hesitant of the death penalty and waiting for the
government. But with the increasing number of accused people, by the time the new governor
arrived, he ordered 19 accused to be hanged. As reputable people also being included in the
accused, they undergo trial courts which then emptied the jails. And after 1692, colonists stop the
practice of witch hunting.
