Assignment 2: LASA 1: Hybrid Car Research Paper

A hybrid car is a motor vehicle that uses two or more different sources of power. In most hybrids, you will find an internal combustion engine in addition to an electrical motor. Depending on how the vehicle is driven and the availability of power, the car uses gasoline and battery power alternately.

In this assignment, you will research five different hybrid cars and evaluate their impact on the environment.

Using the readings for this module, the Argosy University online library resources, and the Internet, do the following:

  • Identify the top five most popular choices of hybrid cars. Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of each car’s technology, price, manufacturing, and impact on environment. Include the scientific principles involved in the technology.
  • Determine which type of car would work best for you and your family. Justify your decision based on your analysis of the five hybrid cars.
  • Explain the impact these cars will have on the United States’ economy. Consider the following issues in your analysis: consumer buying, sustainability, recycling, and fuel economy.
  • Evaluate the impact that hybrid-car technology has had or could have on the United States’ political relationships with oil-producing countries. Be sure to include an analysis of economic issues such as production, supply, and trade.
  • Describe how this technology will influence world politics. Include an analysis of economic issues such as production, supply, and trade.

Support your statements with examples. Use a minimum of six reliable references, two of which should be peer-reviewed articles.

Write a 4–6-page paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation of sources. Use the following file naming convention: LastnameFirstInitial_M3_A2.doc.

By Week 3, Day 7, deliver your assignment to the M3: Assignment 2 Dropbox.

Hybrid Motor-vehicle Technology
Introduction

Hybrid vehicles are a response of the industry to Global warming. Climate change is a
factor that is almost exclusively caused by the emissions of cars and industries. The conventional
form of the motor vehicle almost exclusively relies on fossil fuels to operate. The need to
diversify from petroleum products has created a niche for cars that can also be powered by
alternative sources of energy. The main alternative source of energy is electrical. The discussion
looks at various models and then illustrates the implications that uptake of the project can have
on the current petroleum product economy. For the public to accept the technology, various
utilities have to be in place for the purchases to be sustainable.
Top Five Most Popular Hybrid Cars
There are very many classes of vehicles that utilize hybrid technology. That makes it
difficult to create a one-size-fits-all list. Therefore, it is only fair that a list of the top five most
popular cars using hybrid technology includes: sedans, luxury sedans, compacts, Utility Vehicle,
Sub-compact cars, straight-up sports cars and heavy commercial vehicles.
Hybrid Sedans
Sedans are a class of vehicles that are suited for personal use. The main advantage is the luxury
that it offers the user. Ideally, sedans are used by people that have families since they can also
come with hatchback options for extra space. The hybrid sedan offers all these benefit and more
since there is also the question of reduced fuel economy. The 2016 Toyota Camry is one car that
fits all these descriptions. It is comfortable, and the SE Trim affords it the handling that previous

editions of the car failed to achieve. Forty to forty-one miles to the gallon is decent for any
sedan. If one, factors in the five-star crash rating and the pricing for a stock car hovering at
around twenty-four thousand dollars, the Camry delivers the most bang for a buck regarding
comfort, safety, fuel economy, and aesthetics (Edmunds, 2017).
Hybrid Sports-Utility Vehicle
The Toyota Highlander Hybrid 2016 edition is one SUV that is indeed serving the SUV
market. With a 5-star crash rating, the driver certainly has their safety in good hands. In addition
to that, the hybrid version offers 7-8 more miles per gallon than the standard Highlander with the
same Drivetrain warranty of half a decade. The ride quality is quiet, and the 83.2 cubic feet of
storage space seems like a bargain for $49, 000 or thereabout. Even though the pricing is steep, it
is well-worth the price (Edmunds, 2017).
Luxury Sedans
One thing that is for is in this category is that no potential buyer is bothered by the
amount of money needed to purchase on. In this range, one can find the Porsches, Bentleys,
BMWs, and Audis of this world. However, the one luxury sedan that stands out regarding the
value of money and performance is the 2016 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid sedan. The low-hung
four-door machine has quickly become a flagship in its class. A combined 25 mpg ratio does
little to betray the fact that the car goes for up to 16 miles on its electric capacity before
switching on to its explosive V...
