Explanation & Answer

American Imperialism was fueled by three main factors.

- desire for military strength

- thirst for new markets

- belief in cultural superiority

The saying "Speak softly and carry a big stick, you will go far." was spoken by Theodore Roosevelt as a part of the Roosevelt Corollary. This was a message to Congress, and was added to the Monroe Doctrine. It basically tells Europe ( mainly Dominican Republic since they borrowed & from Europe) .. to stay out of our way, and that we have the power to use force on them in order to protect our economic interests!

It is almost like we are the policemen! We speak of peace, but carry a big stick in order to intervene when needed!! Teddy was like a "peacemaker", and wanted to make sure that everything was in order!!

So you can see how this proverb related to the imperialistic America!!
