Pop Art Movement
The pop art movement began in the mid 20th century across Europe and in the United
States. Unlike the traditional abstract expressionism, pop art applied the aspects of repetitive
imagery and mundane objects. Ideally, pop art focused on using various forms of images and
objects to create emphasis about certain aspects of culture.
Much of Pop Art focused on mundane objects and repetitive imagery. Was there a
meaningful “message” to Pop Art?
Understandably, pop art derived its meaning from the application of repetitive
imagery and different forms of mundane objects. In contrast to abstract expressionism, pop
art presented instant meaning, which was commonly revealed through print work and
paintings. Importantly, unique color schemes and sculptural paintings were used to advertise
high profile consumer goods, graphics, films and for media purposes, (Theartstory.org, n.d.).
Therefore, images and mundane objects enhanced the relevance of pop art by creating instant
