Introduction

In the past, the retail industry was fragmented. Each store had a specific purpose, and
customers were loyal to whatever store they lived nearest to. But now, with consumers' changing
shopping behaviors, retail is evolving to a new era of omnichannel. Omni-channel means that
retailers use a variety of communication channels simultaneously for a cohesive customer
experience. The omnichannel model is a convergence of the digital and physical retail worlds,
and it makes shopping easier for customers. Online retailers are stepping into physical stores,
which is causing a shift in strategy within brick-and-mortar retail. The goal of an omnichannel
experience is to provide the same level of service online and offline so that consumers can shop
on their own terms.
Amazon
Amazon is the largest online retailer in the world, and the company is known for its focus
on user experience. When it first started, Amazon focused on creating a cohesive customer
experience by combining physical and digital channels. Amazon has experienced tremendous
growth since its inception, and the company continues to innovate to reach new customers in
new ways. In 2015, Amazon acquired the Whole Foods grocery chain from their grocer
counterparts Wal-Mart and Target for $13.7 billion (the purchase price was $42 per share). The
Whole Foods acquisition gave Amazon over 460 stores throughout the United States as of
December 2015. Amazon opened its first physical bookstore, Amazon Books, in Seattle in 2016.
Amazon Books includes items that customers ordered online at Amazon, as well as books
written by authors who are published by the company.

Amazon partnered with Kohl's department stores to offer clothing and other merchandise
through the company's Prime Wardrobe service. In 2016, Amazon opened its first pop-up stores
in the United States. These pop-ups were similar to Amazon Books, with the products ordered by
customers being delivered to that store. In 2017, Amazon opened a second pop-up store in India
called 'Amazon Experience Center.' This new store focuses on using technology to enhance
customer service and experience.

Omni-channel Retailing strategies of Amazon
Amazon is one of the companies that has incorporated an Omni-channel strategy into
their business. With the number of Amazon customers increasing and sales increasing, their
executives and management members have noticed a need to improve efficiency in order to
remain competitive in the market (Rouquet, Henriquez & Paché, 2018). To do this, Amazon has
