Yellow Journalism
In the early 1897, the New York Press coined the term ‘Yellow Journalism’ to describe
the papers of William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer which were locked in a tough
circulation competition in the late 1890s (US Department of State). These papers were accused
of sensationalizing their articles to increase demand despite them doing a pretty good job at
reporting. As such, yellow journalism is defined as the use of unethical methods in journalism
with the aim of driving up their circulation. The practices employed by these journalists include
jingoism, sensationalism, scandal and propaganda mongering and other unprofessional methods
by the journalists.
In today’s world, reporting is done in many different ways. At the time when the word
