Hospitality / Tourism Research Project
Over the past twenty years, technology has changed the way of life, mainly in hospitality.
Most of the workforce has been simplified and made comfortable by technology. Technology has
also played a role in increasing revenue in the hospitality industry. Both the client and the
hospitality business usually benefit from effective communication, booking of online
reservations, and systems of guest services due to improved technology in hospitality. The use of
technology in the hospitality sector has been embraced since 1947, and more technology
developments continue to evolve drastically, making most of the guests' experiences full of
pleasure. Many essential ideas come along with technology development, which concludes the
ideas of marketing that exist as one of the advantages of technology integrations.
Through technology, hospitality organizations can achieve many great things, such as promoting
the popularity of their amenities through social media platforms and other phone applications.
This is usually relevant in the current days, where millennials are referred to as "tech-savvy" (Cai
et al.). Thus, technology affects the hospitality enterprises and the clients who play the role of
shaping the way various plans are applied in the service operations. Furthermore, technology
creates much of the income generated in hospitality hotel sales.
Before technology was invented in the hospitality industry, customer travelers used guidebooks.
Guidebooks were conveniently available as they were on sale everywhere, they are even reliable
in the present day, but they are only used to reach popular locations. When tourists are searching
for travel guides in different countries, every region in a particular country has a listing of
tourism hotels together with contacts for the hospitality businesses. In the 1920s, the tourism
guest rooms were installed with the first radios (Gursoy p. 187). Presently, hotel rooms have
been installed with tablets that facilitate effective communication between the client and the
hospitality staff. The hospitality industry has gone through a sequence of technological
developments from the clients' perspective and the business's benefits.
In the hospitality field, human interaction is very much an essential aspect because without its
presence, services to be provided to clients lose value. The human connection is currently
building hospitality places, and with technology application in these projects, tourism hotels are
smoothly losing their genuine touch (Rita). The robot technology use strategy is a millennial
thing for the Baby Boomer and Gen X generations. It has also become a challenge for older
generations (mainly the hotel customers) to adapt to the new application of technology when
ordering for services deliverance (Kabadayi). Some older people that might try to book
accommodation positions might experience challenges in handling the technology of tablets as
most of them do not occur as tech-savvy individuals.
Ultimately, increased use of technology makes the hospitality industry operations of business
more competitive and productive. The latest advancement in technology among the hospitality
industries focuses on improving customers' experience as they ensure the service processes are
relaxed, seamless, and faster. However, hospitality hotels should understand that not all clients
can benefit from their technology advancement solutions, mainly when a customer comes from
the aging generation, they might not understand how to effectively apply the implemented
technologies. The hospitality staff at the hotel businesses are privileged to understand the value
of human interaction. The staff workers should also use technologies not in
the supplement’s role of service but rather in enhancing tools. Human interactions are an
important aspect of customers' needs because once they arrive at their booked hotel, they expect
their needs and demands to be met effectively. It is essential for hospitality staff to study the
impacts of technology on the service industry that they might develop the appropriate service
practices which could lead to the integration of advanced tools to customers thus, reaching a
better competitive advantage.
