Vulnerable Population Summary and Proposed
Vulnerable Population Summary and Proposed
Vulnerable Population Summary and Proposed ProgramThe first of your two written assignments for the course will provide a beginning framework that you will utilize in the development of your Final Project: a proposal for a community-based program in your area. For this first written assignment, you will select one of the vulnerable groups identified in the text that will serve as your target population of interest throughout the duration of your next written assignment and Final Project. Choose one among the following groups from Chapter 1:Vulnerable mothers and children Abused individuals Chronically ill and disabled people People diagnosed with HIV/AIDS People diagnosed with mental conditions Suicide- and homicide-liable people People affected by alcohol and substance abuse Indigent and homeless people Immigrants and refugees Groups for special consideration (you may propose a different vulnerable population at the consent of the instructor) Once you have selected a group of interest, write a three- to- four page paper that covers the following: Describe the impact that at least two of the factors below have on the vulnerability of your chosen group: Age Gender Culture/Ethnicity Income Analyze the intersection of social, political, and economic factors affecting vulnerability (must address all three factors). Draft the design of a model program. Provide a two- to- three paragraph statement that introduces your proposed community program. This section is tentative and might change as you conduct more research. At a minimum, however, items to address should include: Identify the health needs of the group and select a proposed continuum of care level focus (preventive, treatment, or long-term care) based on the group’s stated risk factors and needs. Discuss your justification for the proposed level with supportive research/evidence. A description of one- to- two proposed services your program will include.

Ashford 3: - Week 2 - AssignmentTeaching "Intelligent Design" in the Public SchoolsWrite your paper about a hypothetical proposal that is before the elected school board for the public schools in your city. The proposal stirs deep controversy in the community. Opponents claim that it would violate the Constitution’s prohibition against an “establishment of religion.” The proposed mandatory regulation states:“The theory of ‘intelligent design’ shall be taught in the public schools of this city in all classes where the theory of evolution is taught. The theory of ‘intelligent design’ shall be taught as a possible scientific explanation for life, and other aspects of the universe, and as an alternative to the scientific explanation offered by the theory of evolution. For purposes of this regulation, ‘intelligent design’ is a theory that certain features of the universe and living things ‘are best explained by an intelligent cause, not an undirected process such as natural selection’ as claimed by the theory of evolution.” [See: IDEA Center. (2004). Intelligent design theory in a nutshell. Retrieved from http://www.ideacenter.org/contentmgr/showdetails.php/id/1136].Write your paper from the perspective of a community member listed below. In other words, for this assignment, you will assume a role. Imagine yourself as one of the following people:The superintendent of the public schools in your community. The chair-person of the local elected school board. A little known candidate running for mayor, who is challenging the long-time, highly popular mayor. The president of the citywide Public School Parents Association. The pastor of a local mega-church who believes in the literal interpretation of the Bible, including every aspect of the creation story. A high school science teacher who is the elected president of the citywide teachers’ union. Write your paper as if it will be read by a public audience who are likely to be interested in your views given your role in the community. With this in mind, write clearly and persuasively for that audience. You are not required to take a position that your audience agrees with; but you should write with the purpose of informing and persuading that audience. If you know someone who plays a role like this in your community, it might be interesting to discuss this assignment with that person.Your paper must clearly state your position on the constitutionality of the proposed school regulation. Your paper should not address broader questions about the merits of the regulation; but it should focus on whether or not the regulation would violate the Establishment Clause of the Constitution. You must clearly explain and apply an interpretation of the Establishment Clause and justify your position using part of the rationale of at least one of the four different opinions authored by various Justices of the Supreme Court in the case of Edwards v. Aguillard (1987). However, the paper must be written in your own words without lengthy quotation from outside sources. Briefly quoting a few words for emphasis or special effect is acceptable. If you paraphrase the words or use ideas from any source, you must cite the source according to APA style. The paper must be at least 800 words in length and formatted according to APA style. You must use at least three scholarly resources (including Edwards v. Aguillard and also one of the assigned scholarly articles) other than the textbook to support your claims and subclaims. Cite your resources in text and on the reference page. For information regarding APA samples and tutorials, visit the Ashford Writing Center, within the Learning Resources tab on the left navigation toolbar.

Assessment Plan
Assessment Plan
I can post to my blog, original Demonstrate your understanding of the concepts covered in this course by
developing a plan to assess learner performance. This plan should be
constructed in your portfolio blog, and should include the following
elements:Purpose and Learning Outcome: Describe the purpose of your assessment plan. Then, write a learning outcome that supports the purpose you have described.Tip: This purpose must involve the learning of some knowledge or skill.Tip: Refer back to Chapter 6 of your textbook for information on learning outcomes.
Assessment Context: Identify a task or a situation in which the learners will be able to demonstrate the knowledge or skills they have gained.
Holistic Rubric: Create a fully developed holistic rubric for one of the two assessments you designed.
Tip: You can use Bloom's Taxonomy
to adjust the level of cognitive rigor in the assignment. For example,
asking learners to “describe” a concept is easier than asking them to
“apply” it.
Testing Constraints: Identify the constraints you will impose on the assessment.
Then, write a 3- to 5-page paper (excluding title and reference pages)
that explains and supports your assessment plan. Justify your selection
of assessment context, evaluate your holistic rubric, and explain why
you selected the testing constraints you did. Remember that the
ultimate goal of assessment and assessment plans is to promote learning.
Your paper should include a link to your portfolio blog, and should be
formatted to APA standards.

2) Assignment: Research Proposal - Draft of IntroductionThis Assignment is part of the Final Project’s Research Proposal that you will turn in at the end of Unit 9. In light of the fact that this Assignment will be part of your MSP Portfolio and should represent the very best of your writing, the project has been designed to be completed in portions to permit feedback and revision. The Assignment for this unit will produce a draft of your Introduction section; the Unit 7 Assignment will be a draft of the Method Section; and the Final Project in Unit 9 will incorporate revisions of both of these earlier Assignments as well as an abstract. As noted, this Assignment represents the Introduction section of your Research Proposal. It will be written as a standard paper, with title and references page. When it is revised for inclusion in your Final Project, some changes will need to be made, but if you’ve done well here, those changes will be minor. The Introduction section of a Research Proposal includes an explanation of the topic, a literature review of previously published research on the topic of the research being proposed, and a description of the proposed research question and hypotheses.Open the Introduction section with an introductory paragraph complete with a thesis statement, just like any paper. From there, move into a discussion of the research topic: describe the topic and the issues around it, define terms that might not be known by the reader. Make sure that they understand the topic.Once the reader understands the topic, move smoothly into a literature review discussing recent research on the topic (using the 3-5 articles you found while doing the Unit 2 Discussions and Assignment if you have remained with that topic). Describe each research paper’s hypothesis and method, and critique the methods used and the conclusions that were drawn. Was the research done well? Are the conclusions drawn sound? Did they miss anything? After the literature review, transition into a discussion of your proposal’s research question. Explain the question itself and why it needs to be asked and answered. Describe the hypothesis (you may have more than one) that you have formulated and how it relates to the research question. Finally, write a summary paragraph that recaps the research topic, the research question and hypothesis, and what the proposed research hopes to accomplish.Assignment DirectionsTo recap in an outline format:Formal title pageIntroduction sectionIntroduction paragraph (with thesis statement)Background material - ensuring that the reader understands the research topicLiterature review – clearly and completely discussing recent research on the topic using three to five peer-reviewed, scholarly sourcesThe proposed research – What is the proposed research, why is it important?Define the research question and why it is important or useful to ask and answer the questionDescribe the hypothesis and how it will answer the research questionA summary paragraphFormal References sectionThe Assignment should:Follow Assignment directions (review grading rubric for best results).Use correct APA formatting per the APA Publication Manual, (6th ed.).Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard American English. – hidden17 hours agoSupplement:3 Assignment: Research Proposal – Draft of Method Section This Assignment is part of the Final Project’s Research Proposal that will be turned in at the end of Unit 9. In light of the fact that this Assignment will be part of your MSP portfolio and should represent the very best of your writing, the Assignment has been designed to be completed in portions to permit feedback and revision. The Assignment for this unit will produce a draft of your Method section; the Unit 4 Assignment was a draft of the Introduction section; and the Final Project in Unit 9 will incorporate revisions of both of these earlier assignments as well as an abstract. As noted, this Assignment represents the Method section of your Research Proposal. It should have a title page and references page but should be formatted per the APA Publication Manual’s outline of a Method section (see page 44 of the APA Publication Manual for a graphic and description of the formatting). When it is revised for inclusion in the Final Project, some changes will need to be made, but if you have done well here, those changes will be minor. The Method section of a Research Proposal is like the instructions portion of a recipe. It outlines in very specific terms everything that is necessary to cook the dish (to perform the research and collect the data). This includes describing the ingredients in very specific detail (describing the participants and how they are recruited, describing any apparatus or other materials necessary for the research to move forward) and then giving very detailed instructions on how make the dish (the procedure…how one will do the actual research). As with any other recipe, if anything is vague or left out of the description, the result will NOT be what was intended. The Method section for the Research Proposal in this course will have five subsections, arranged in this order: Participants, Apparatus/Materials, Measures, Procedure, and Ethical Considerations. Apart from these subsections, there should be no other material in the Method section.Under “Participants,” the population to be sampled from should be clearly described and the method of sampling (random, stratified, etc.) described along with the rationale for why that method will be used and how the actual recruitment will be performed.“Apparatus/Materials” will describe any equipment or other materials that will be needed for the research. If you intend to use a questionnaire or inventory, it should be clearly identified here. The “Measures” subsection describes the variables being assessed in the study. Describe the independent and dependent variables, how they will be analyzed, and how you will assess the reliability and validity of the measures. The “Procedure” subsection must be completed in enough detail to ensure that someone else reading it could replicate the experiment exactly as proposed. Referring back to the recipe metaphor: if the recipe doesn’t clearly and exactly describe every step, each person using the recipe is likely to wind up with a very different food at the end. The procedure section should also clearly indicate what type of experimental design is being used (“quantitative, between-subjects design”).The final subsection, “Ethical Considerations” will discuss appropriate ethical issues that might arise from performing the research: informed consent, privacy issues, etc. Don’t simply give a laundry list of the APA standards; discuss them in terms of your proposal and how you will ensure that you are in accord with the guidelines. If there are BACB guidelines that might also come into play here, they should also be discussed.Assignment DirectionsTo recap in an outline format:Formal title page (this title page will not be included in the Final Project)Method sectionParticipants subsection (describing population to be tested, describing sampling plan)Materials subsection (describing all equipment and materials needed)Measures subsection (describing variables to be controlled/measured as well as a discussion of reliability and validity)Procedure subsection (detailed description of how the research is to be done, sufficient to permit replication. Clearly label research design)Ethical considerations subsection (discuss APA ethical guidelines with respect to how they must be implemented for the research. ABA students should also discuss anything relevant from BACB guidelines.)References (materials from this page and the Unit 4 Assignment’s references page will be concatenated in the Final Project)The Assignment should:Follow Assignment directions (review grading rubric for best results).Use correct APA formatting per the APA Publication Manual, 6th Edition.Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard American English. 4) Final Project: Research ProposalFor your Final Project, you will produce a formal research proposal as per APA guidelines (10-15 pages). You will use revisions of the Unit 4 and Unit 7 Assignments to create the Introduction and Methods sections. The proposal should contain all of the following sections:A formal title page (with a title that is descriptive of the proposed research)Abstract: Make sure to include the following details here:Problem statementSubjectsMethods and procedures usedIntroduction (a revision of the Unit 4 Assignment): Make sure to include the following components within this section of the paper:A brief review of the literature and how the proposed research fits with other research on this subjectA statement of the research problem and why it is importantA statement of the purpose of the researchYour hypothesis (you can have more than one here), including the variables that you will use to assess your hypothesis and why you believe the hypothesis is trueA brief description of how the hypothesis and the research design relates to the problem statementMethod (a revision of the Unit 7 Assignment) including the following subsections:Participants or subjects (include your sampling plan here)Apparatus – any equipment that will be neededProcedure – include sufficient details to ensure the possibility of replication and make sure to clearly label your research method here as well (for example, a quantitative between subjects matched groups design)Measures - include at least one independent and dependent measure here and how you will assess the reliability and validity of your measuresEthical considerations – make sure to state that your subjects were treated in accordance with APA ethical guidelines and briefly outline what steps you took to ensure this in your proposal (ABA students should also include any relevant information from the BACB guidelines for responsible conduct and disciplinary standards documents)Reference section: Include all relevant citations here using APA style guidelinesThe Final Project should:Follow assignment directions (review grading rubric for best results).Use correct APA formatting per the APA Publication Manual (6th ed.).Demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard American English.Be written in Standard American English and be clear, specific, and error-free.– hidden17 hours ago
