Adolescence is a critical development stage that characterizes the transition from
childhood into adulthood. Usually, the stage begins from the onset of puberty, 12 years, and lasts
to attainment and transformation into adulthood, at the age of 19 years. Throughout this period,
individuals go through rigorous physical, emotional, intellectual and social changes that
eventually shape and define their character, personalities, and esteem. To explain this stage of
development, numerous theories and concepts have been constructed by various psychologists to
help create an understanding of the stage, its implications and the role in determining a person's
life as an adult. The conceptual approach to adolescence has evolved progressively through
history and in terms of cultural understanding. These changes have in turn led to the emergence
of several approaches, which behaviorists and psychologists use in defining the role of the stage
