Calculate the acetate ion concentration in a solution prepared by dissolving 9.70×10-3 mol of HCl(g) in 1.00 L of 1.30 M aqueous acetic acid (Ka = 1.80×10-5).

2.00×10-3 mol/L

Calculate the pH of the above solution.

So, presuming that 2.00E-3 M is the concentration of Ac- in solution after equilibrium is reached, then the mols of H3O+ in soln at equilibrium should be equal to

9.7E-3 + 2.00E-3 = 1.17E-2 mols H3O+

Calculating the pH involves taking the –log of that number

pH = -log (1.17E-2)

  = 1.93
