What are the most common security risks associated with mobile banking?
The banking industry has gone through changes through mobile banking. Most of the
operations that used to be performed in the banks have become convenient as people can conduct
transactions through their cell phones. However, mobile banking has also opened up room for
security threats and vulnerabilities. For instance, mobile malware, risky consumer behaviors,
third-party apps and use of unsecured Wi-Fi by customers are some of the risks associated with
mobile banking (Garfinkel, 2002). The banking operations are thus exposed to risks and threats
that may cause severe consequences to the financial institutions. Attacks have been made by
hackers, and unauthorized people have access to relevant information stored in the computer
systems of the banks. The mobile banking application is directly linked to the information in the
banks, and this is a significant threat to the institutions. As a result, besides making it easy and
convenient for customers, the activity has exposed many financial institutions to threats and risks
that have led to the loss of vital data and information that has threatened the operations.
