Leonidas, the son of the lion, was the king of the Greek city of Sparta. He died on 19th
September 480 BC. Leonidas was the 17th in the Agiad line, which was a family that claimed
decency from the mythical Cadmus and demigod Heracles (Setianto, 2019). He was the child
of King Anaxandridas II, and he succeeded his step-brother King Cleomenes in 490 BC.
Leonidas became the king of Sparta when his half-brother died in violent and somewhat
mysterious conditions, minus having a male heir. Leonida's co-leader was named King
