Managers should be leading by example and I look at my managers and base my behavior and try to mimic their behavior. It has gotten them the promotion to be in a management position so why would I not want to follow their lead and example?
It might not necessarily be best to mimic their behavior because they might not have been promoted because of their leadership abilities, but for "other" reasons, i.e. who they know, where they live, their political views, their spouse. In other words, there could be a number of reasons they are in management that have nothing to do with their qualifications.
