For any organization or company, the recruitment and selection of staff members are
important as it is a major determinant of how the company performs in the future. All
organizations look forward to selecting the best individuals to join their staff team who will
quickly fit in and help in meeting the firm’s mission and objectives. Poor recruitment techniques
often lead to the hiring of employees who are either not fit to serve their duty or are less
motivated to work. As a Human Resource manager at my firm, it is crucial for me to ensure that
all protocols are observed during the recruitment and selection process of potential individuals
looking forward to work at the firm. Recently the firm was looking to add new people to the staff
team and I was assigned the role of selecting the most qualified individuals to join the
organization.
The following are the steps I took during the recruitment and selection process for
that exercise.
The first step is to identify the vacant position and analyze the needs it requires, this
means that as an HR manager, one needs to familiarize with the goals and the set of skills that a
staff member requires to fill in the vacant position in the given department. A good plan and
evaluation of these needs will lead to selecting the right individual for the task and the team
(University of California, 2017). If it is a new position created, one needs to consider the
objectives that the department expects to be met while adding the position plus the changes
within that department that will occur from creating the new position. Carry out an analysis of
the department by identifying the gaps and the skills missing in the department. If it is a role that
