A mixture of oxygen and carbon dioxide gases, in a 9.85 L flask at 40 °C, contains 3.75 grams of oxygen and 16.4 grams of carbon dioxide. The partial pressure of carbon dioxide in the flask is ____ atm and the total pressure in the flask is ___ atm.

Oxygen:

3.75 g * 1 mol/32 g = 0.1172 mol

P = nRT/V = 0.1172*0.0821*313 / 9.85

PO2 = 0.306 atm

CO2

16.4 g * 1mol/44g = 0.3727 mol

PCO2 = 0.3727*0.0821*313/9.85 = 0.972 atm

Ptotal = PO2 + PCO2 = 1.278 atm
