Conrad Roy was found dead in a truck inhaling carbon monoxide in a Kmart parking lot.
After an investigation, it was realized that Roy had communicated to his girlfriend before he
committed suicide. This made her girlfriend, Michelle Carter, arrested and prosecuted. The
investigation found that Michelle encouraged Roy to commit suicide. Morally, it is not right for
one to encourage an individual to commit suicide. Therefore, Michelle acted irresponsibly
towards Roy. Roy suffered from depression for a long time and it was his second time to attempt
suicide.
The case was a heard in a state court in Massachusetts where common law was used to
determine the outcome of the case. This case faced critics after the ruling. The ruling was a great
shock to Michelle Carter since it was against her. Roy was an adult but Michelle was a minor at
the time of suicide. However, the case was determined three years later when Michelle was
twenty years.
The case involves Michelle Carter who encouraged Conrad Roy to commit suicide in a
truck. The case was held in a Massachusetts court. The case found Michelle Carter guilty of
pushing the Roy to poison himself using carbon monoxide in a truck. The investigation found
that the accused sent numerous text messages motivating Conrad Roy to commit suicide.
Michelle Carter understood that Roy was suffering from a mental condition that could
have pushed him further to commit suicide. However, instead of saving him from such situation,
Michelle sent him messages that made him go ahead to committing suicide. It was Michelle
Carter’s responsibility to stop Roy from committing suicide. Communication between Michelle
and Roy were reviewed which made it clear that Michelle contributed significantly to the death
of Roy.
