Improvement methodologies
There are certain improvement strategies that are implemented through improvement
strategies and structured methods for process improvement. Improvement is done through
anticipating customer needs, taking all activities as a process, making the processes, adaptable
and efficient, and others. Some of these methods include the Deming Cycle known as the
Deming Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle (PDCA), Juran’s quality trilogy, Kaizen and Six Sigma.
The Deming cycle is basically based on the four systems of profound knowledge on the
theory of optimization, variation, knowledge, and psychology. All these are based on the
constant reminder that most problems are systematic and it is the duty of the management to
improve their systems in order to improve and increase processes. The PDCA cycle is a process
that Deming made out on planning, testing the activities ahead of implementation and ahead of
making it formal. The minor disadvantage is that the cycle may require a lot of time to
implement and it is a long process to introduce; therefore, it is not quite suitable for my plan.
Juran’s quality trilogy emphasizes on the roles of quality planning, control and
improvement. Juran’s trilogy has many benefits that attains high levels of performance but it is
not quite suitable for my plan. Kaizen is a Japanese philosophy that focuses on continuous
improvement of processes. It aims to eliminate waste and humanize the workplace. The Kaizen
philosophy is quite practical and requires a lot of input and resources and it’s mostly suitable for
a large organizational plan, as compared to mine (Imai, 1986).

measure, analyze, improve and control) and DMAIV (define measure analyze design and verify)
processes. Six sigma is quite effective and I prefer it to the rest of the improvement
methodologies. The reason behind it is due to the fact that six sigma reduces variation, solves
problems in a scientific manner, leads to greater results and develop improvements towards
continuous quality improvement (Lindberg, 1997),
Benchmarking
Benchmarking is known as a systematic method through which an organization can
measure themselves against the best industry practices. It is therefore an improve...
