The global criminal justice industry is has an array of mental health forensic careers and
although all these careers stem from the same industry, they are in fact dis-similar. For starters,
as much as both forensic psychology and forensic social work offer constructive resolutions to
society, psychiatrists go through intensive training in the areas of mental disorders, diagnosis and
treatment; they are expected to graduate from a four-year medical school before undergoing
extensive evaluations and testing to pass the boards to acquire a medical license. In addition, the
forensic psychiatrist will need to satisfy all the required residency demands just as a medical
physician would. Like any other kind of physician, they can perform laboratory tests and
prescribe medications for treatment, provide psychotherapy and provide therapy to individuals,
couples or entire families. Psychologists, on the other hand, have no medical training, but have
training and expertise in related important topics such as statistical analysis and psychological
testing. They typically obtain PhDs in psychology and often specialize in criminal justice and
forensics. Often times, when attaining the research degree, the student is exposed to a big range
of research material that assists in broadening their forensic psychology career.

Both forensic psychology and forensic social work offer positive solutions to society. They both
provide counseling and useful resolutions for mediation and advocacy but there are distinctive
differences that are distinctive to both forensic psychology and forensic social work.
Psychologists look into record and interpret the way people and animals relate to each other,
stimuli and their environment through performing interviews, providing psychotherapy and
doing diagnostic tests. Social workers, on the other hand, create plans to improve overall
