Needs Statement
This proposal seeks to solicit funds from potential donors or financial institutions that have an
interest in improving the health care system. The health care sector faces myriad challenges that
when they are not dealt with now, the sector is headed for darker days especially with the
growing population. There are several reasons why am requesting funding to carry out this
research. This form of research requires a health center to have a specific room which will serve
as a server room for the system that will enable the electronic health record system to effectively
run, some hospitals do not have this space so we will have to build one.
The other reason is that carrying out a project of this magnitude means doing away with
paper work and integrating the initial data on paper into the electronic system. This calls for
hiring of temporary personnel who will key data into the system. Also, the electronic health
record system/software itself have to be purchased and that requires money. The significant
reason for this request for funding is that most lives have been lost in the past as a result of poor
record keeping. In the medical profession a patient’s medical history is critical in treating a
present condition. In most cases this data has not been available hence patients have been
misdiagnosed resulting in further complications or death. To change this situation record keeping
has to be changed from the present paper system to an efficient one -the electronic health record
system.
In a report, the Department of Health says that over 100,000 patients annually either lose
their lives or are misdiagnosed as a result of poor medical record keeping. The report further
states that this scenario has a ripple effect on the general population including families where
over 500,000 people indirectly get affected by this.
