Conflict Resolution
Introduction
Conflicts in the workplace are common since employees tend to have different
preferences and principles. However, what is important is the manner in which conflicts are
resolved. Several strategies can be employed in the resolution of conflicts to ensure that there is
peaceful co-existence of the employees in addition to good relationships. In the working
environment, there has been a case where there was a conflict between the nurse and the
physician over the patient information that was missing during coding that resulted in the wrong
diagnosis. The twelve main strategies of conflict resolution could have been applicable in
ensuring that the conflict was well resolved.
Critical Analysis
Although the nurse insisted that she based her evidence-based patient care on the updated
copy of the coded information, the physician insisted that the latest information he had updated
concerning the diagnosis and treatment plan was missing, and therefore the Advanced Nurse
Practitioner was to blame. In such a situation, it was difficult to establish who was in the wrong
since both parties insisted on their innocence. However, using the twelve main strategies of
conflict resolution namely, win-win approach, emotion management, empathy, willingness to
resolve, cooperative power, mapping of the conflict, development of options, negotiation,
creative response, assertiveness, broadening perspectives and mediation, it is possible to control
the disagreement.
