Description

The following page (pg. 2) shows the beginning of an article on Bipolar Disorder. You will use this information to complete the following four (4) grading criteria. *A couple additional notes below before starting: - You do not need to research any additional articles. This is a formatting and paraphrasing assignment – not a research assignment. All the information you will format and paraphrase is provided for you on page (2) of this HW description. - All the information regarding how to paraphrase and format is provided for you inside the APA Resources module in the Sakai course room as seen below: 1. Create an APA Title Page (2.5 points).  Consult the APA Resources module to view how. 2. Create an APA Body Page (2.5 points).  Write a paragraph that paraphrases the text of the article (pg. 2) for the body of the paper. Make sure to include all of the major points of the text, but use your own words. This does not mean that you need to include every detail. It does mean that if I read your version, I would walk away with a similar understanding of the article. Consult the APA Resources module to view how. 3. Create an in-text citation (2.5 points)  This includes the author(s) and date of publication in your paraphrased paragraph. Consult the APA Resources module to view how. 4. Create a Reference Page (2.5 points).  All of the information that you need to make a complete reference is listed on pg. 2. (*Remember, the information on pg. 2 is not in APA format). Consult the APA Resources module to view how. *Grading * Due to the specificity of APA format, the instructor will not deduct an automatic 2.5 points if there is only one item missed on any of the four major grading criteria. The 2.5 points for each of the four grading criteria is a total for that particular segment of the assignment (ie: If there were not one item correct in all of grading criteria #1, then it would be a loss of the total 2.5 points). Please see pg. (2) for the article and other information you will use:The Bipolar Spectrum: A Review of Current Concepts and Implications for the Management of Depression in Primary Care Sloan J. Manning; Pamela D. Connor; Anjali Sahai, Archives of Family Medicine. 1998;7:63-71.

The paragraph

Bipolar disorders are identified with increasing frequency in clinical practice. Until recently, patients treated in outpatient psychiatric settings were presumed overwhelmingly to have unipolar diagnoses. However, later studies on the affective subtypes treated in this setting reveal a different picture. These investigations suggested that approximately 30% of depressed patients treated in outpatient psychiatric settings may have bipolar spectrum illness. A prospective study conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health (Rockville, Md) found that 12.5% of patients initially given a diagnosis of major depression eventually had a bipolar illness.
