ABSTRACT
Intimate partner violence refers to domestic by either spouse or partner that are already in a an
intimate relationship against the other partner or spouse. It can well be referred to as any
behavior or action within an intimate relationship that can lead to occurrence of violence in
forms such as psychological or sexual harm to the parties related, physical, majorly displayed in
such acts like sexual coercion, physical aggression, psychological abuse, and controlling
behavior. Intimate violence thus takes a number of forms that include; verbal, physical,
economic, emotional, and sexual abuse (WHO, 2016). Duty to protect refers to the responsibility
of mental health professionals to protect victims from foreseeable harm that they might cause to
