Social/demographic segments: Every organization that exists should be approved by the people.
The union pacific corporation which interacts with more than 7000 communities ensures that its
interest does not conflict with that of the peoples (Davidson, 2002). It ensures that its operation
does not affect the people whether they are their employees or not. It also has a responsibility to
ensure customer satisfaction in order to remain in business.

Technological segments. The company has to ensure that it aligns itself with the ever advancing
technology by acquiring new locomotives that are environmentally friendly with the state of the
art technology (Davidson, 2002). The locomotives also have a huge carrying capacity, ensure
they have a special loading and off-loading equipment and also locomotives that can transport
special cargo like perishable goods.

Economic segments. The company should ensure that all their operations are cost effective and
their main aim should be to make profits in order to remain competitive in the market
(Datamonitor, 2002). To achieve this, the company should ensure it has cost effective
locomotives that not only consume less fuel but also with a profitable carrying capacity. If
