Developing a Problem Statement cjd21

1.Develop a problem statement and hypothesis you could test in your current or desired criminal justice career, based on your reading of the Hernon and Schwartz article "What Is a Problem Statement?"

2. Identify the primary independent and dependent variables that would support your hypothesis.

3.Explain how the inductive research process differs from the deductive research process providing examples to explore when each type of research is most appropriate.

4.Specify whether you would use inductive or deductive research and reasoning to test your hypothesis based on the research circle discussed in Chapter 2 of Fundamentals of Research in Criminology and Criminal Justice.

Competencies Addressed in This Discussion cjd31

.

The purpose of this discussion is to understand that ethical gray areas exist and fellow researcher may view the same concept very differently. In an effort to highlight varying viewpoints regarding ethics in research, based on your reading assignment and any additional research needed, address the following in your main post:

5.Devise a list of 3–5 ethical violations in criminological research methodology, based on a study other than the Stanford Prison Experiment.

6.Analyze whether you would consider each research method a true ethical violation and to what degree.

7.Explain whether IRB and ACJS ethical standards are enough to ensure that criminal justice research is conducted using ethical research methods.

Unethical Research: The Stanford Prison Experiment cjd32

After reading about the Stanford Prison Experiment in Chapter 3 of your Fundamentals of Research in Criminology and Criminal Justice text and viewing the Quiet Rage: The Stanford Prison Experiment video about the Stanford Prison Experiment conducted by Stanford University, conduct Internet research to identify an ethical study conducted by a criminal justice agency (as opposed to a scholar-practitioner such as a university). Then address the following in your main post:

8.Analyze whether the research methods used in the Stanford Prison Experiment were ethical.

9.Explain whether it was ethical to trade the suffering experienced by participants for the knowledge gained by the research.

10. Illustrate the characteristics of an ethical research study conducted by a criminal justice agency.

11. Differentiate the ethical research methods used in the study conducted by a criminal justice agency and the deceptive research methods employed in the Stanford Prison Experiment.

12. Determine what you believe was the worst ethical violation in the Stanford Prison Experiment and how it could have been avoided.

Developing a Problem Statement cjd21
Problem statement:
What are the possible ways in which victims of crimes have been integrated into adversarial
proceedings in common law jurisdictions?
This study examines the different ways in which victims of crimes have been integrated into
adversarial proceedings in common law jurisdictions. The following are the dependent
variables that support my hypothesis; The submission of a victim impact statement was the
main route by which victims were granted a certain status in court proceedings. Recently, the
growing importance of victim advocates in various common law jurisdictions reflects an
increased concern to give them real status and effective rights in terms of legal representation. A
lawyer can accompany them throughout the court process, from pretrial hearings to sentencing
and to appeal procedures. The experience of civil law courts could also contribute to the
successful integration of victim advocates into adversarial models; Lawyers whose growing
reputation represents a significant step forward for a criminal law which, by designing the
victims as stakeholders in adversarial justice systems, attaches increasing importance to
enhancing their capacity for action. The independent variables here are the victims of crime.
The methodology can be defined as the set of methods, processes, and rules for selecting
appropriate statistical tools for data analysis. It allows the researcher to control the quality of his
research and to meet his objectives. The choice of research methodology is not fortuitous, it
depends on the concept used and the objectives set. Indeed, the researcher uses an approach and
a type of research in line with his study. Thus, the following development will highlight the

choice of an approach and a type of research. These approaches are the following; inductive and
the deductive approach. The inductive approach is based on limited observations and from
these observations, we will infer hypotheses a...
