Mendelian genetics covers several types of characteristic that follow a relatively simple pattern of heredity. When handling genetic characteristics that follow these rules, remember that an organism receives two copies of every gene, one from each of its parents. Genes that follow Mendelian genetics come in several alleles. A particular allele or trait is either dominant, recessive or co-dominant, depending on how it interacts with other alleles.
