For your final written assignment, you refine and develop your Public Health Leadership Theory based on leadership theories and a systems approach learned in this course. For this Assignment, your theory should reflect Instructor feedback, researched studies, introspection, innovation, and literature analysis.

Section 1Abstract and Introduction (1–2 pages)

Section 2Revised Literature Review and Problem Statement (5–7 pages):

  • Literature Review to include:
    • A synthesis of the literature of 15–20 peer reviewed, scholarly resources
    • A description of theoretical gaps in the research
  • Problem Statement to include:
    • An explanation of the specific problem that addresses identified gaps within the literature
    • An explanation of how your problem statement incorporates implications for positive social change.

Section 3 — Personal Public Health Leadership Theory (2–3 pages):

  • An articulation of your personal Public Health Leadership Theory

Section 4 — Revised Visual Representation of Your Public Health Leadership Theory (3–4 pages):

Your visual representation should include:

  • Your personal Public Health Leadership Theory to address the gaps identified in the literature
  • A visual representation of the theory (e.g. table, graph, matrix)
  • A explanation on how the theory addresses the literature gap identified in Week 5
  • A description of how your theory incorporates aspects of systems thinking

Section 5 — Empirical Evaluation Plan for a Public Health Leadership Theory (3–4 pages):

You will assess if the newly developed leadership theory addresses the problem you have been working on. What methodological steps will you use? How will you collect data? Suggestion - start with how theories in our text are evaluated. It does not have to be detailed, but it must include the methods, measures and analytic techniques.

If the assignments are done correctly, there should be an alignment from the topic of choice to the evaluation:

  • The topic is researched in the literature
  • The literature review points out a theoretical gap that needs to be addressed by leadership
  • The gap is turned into a problem statement
  • A leadership theory to address the problem proposed
  • The theory is depicted in a visual; and finally
  • An evaluation plan describes how the newly developed theory resolves the problem identified in the literature

To further help, examples (Two final projects - permission given to post) are located in the Doc Sharing area for this week

Section 6 — Conclusion (1–2 pages)

Section 7 — References

  • An APA-formatted reference list of 15–20 peer-reviewed, scholarly journals

1. Introduction
Modernly, the public health sector is one of the most important sectors in the health. The
sector is very important since it deals directly with the lives and health of many people. As a
result, governments together with the citizens of any country are always ready to spend in the
public health sector. As a result, many leaders in the public health sector have developed a
culture of taping for themselves the huge revenues in this industry as opposed to providing
efficient services that are greatly needed in this sector. Most leaders in the public sector see the
increased revenue in this sector as a gold mine. Driven bythe greed of making increased, the
leaders inthe public sector have forgotten about empathetic leadership that was once a virtue in
the public sector. With the increasing complaints and allegations of poor service delivery and
lack of empathy in service delivery in the public health sector, there is the need of reviving the
empathic leadership that was once a virtue in the public health sector. To be an effective leader
in health services, it is good for the leader to emphasize on safe, high quality as well as
compassionate care. This helps in making sure that the patient'svoice is heard at every level in
this includes, experience, needs, concerns as well as positive or negative feedback of the patient
being attended to.

2. Literature review
The literature review will include reviewing the leadership theory as well as the
researchin general focusing of the emphatic leadership theory as well as research in health care.
This is to examine the research that is from the links which are in between leadership culture and
climate in health care as well as outcomes. This is particularly in the patient's outcomes where
the research is supposed to be explored in the leadership development and ultimately draw a
conclusion which is based on the review.
There has been much that has been written in defining leadership but leadership is
commonly defined as the process of providing influence, whereby, a person aids, supports, and
organizes a group of people in order to achieve or accomplish a common goal. There is always
the requirement for leaders to havea necessary skill that can they can use to manage their
organizations. It is important to know that a successful leadership requires the ability in securing
as well as maintaining an engaged group of follower that are willing to join the leader in the
mission and vision of the health care organization’s journey over time(McCann, Graves, & Cox,
2014). The most important traits of a leader applicable any organization include one who is a
planner, visionary, hardworking, future-oriented, decision-maker and a problem solver.
However, in current circumstances, public health leaders require additional traits in them in order
to succeed in the public health sector.
For instance, public health sector involvestheinteraction of people from different origins.
As a result, there is the need of having leaders who can relate effectively with others having
different cultures. Therefore, there is the need of having leaders who can manage complexities,

diversities, and uncertainties of the future in this sector.Additionally, the public health sector
involves looking after the lives of people. Since life is a very important thing, there is the need to
have responsible leaders in the public health sector. Responsible leaders can aid to provide will
definitely have skills of leadership that take care of peoples’ lives. Responsible leaders can help
to develop measures to prevent the advancing trend of viewing public health sector not only as
profit making sector but also as a sector that saves peoples’ lives.
Globally, there is an increasing trend to demand empathetic leadership in the public
health sector. This need arises simply because most leaders in the public health sector lack this
trait in them. Empathy, which was one of the most coveted virtues in the public health sector, is
nowhere to be seen today. Currently, most public health organizations are mainly after making
increased profits as opposed to caring for patients and delivering their services with empathy.
Employing empathetic leadership in public health organizations eliminates poor attitudes people
have in public health organizations. Empathetic leaders are leaders who can put themselves in
place of people they deal with n their daily operations. Empathetic leaders simply understand the
problems that their employees, customers, stakeholders, and the community at large
undergo.Consequently, empathetic leaders will try to develop ways that can aid in the helping
these groups of people. As a result of empathetic leaderships in public health organizations, there
will be increased relationship between various stakeholders in this sector. Finally, it will promote
a good image for public health organizations. There is always a great inspiration that comes from
great leaders. This is because they always identify the gaps as well as opportunities for
improvement and sometimes bridge the gaps and this is through guiding an organization out of it
acomfort zone. There are some changes that are needed and also other needs need to be
significant creative. Great leaders should be able to foster the cohesive teams as well as system
