Enterprise Systems (EES)?
There are four layers of Extended Enterprise Systems.

Foundation Layer

Analytical Layer
E-Business Layer
Foundation Layer
The Foundation layer deals with the core components of EES. An integrated database is
one of the core components. It can be a distributed database. The application framework
is another core component. These integrated databases and application frameworks have
created a platform for EES.
Process Layer
The process layer deals with the central components of EES. It can be implemented as a
web-based and componentized system. Also, it can be a set of distributed Web Services.
This EES concept is based on Business Process Management (BPM). ERP with
additional integrated modules still works as the backbone of EES.
Question One
Pg. 02
Analytical Layer
The analytical layer deals with the corporate components. These corporate components
extend and improve the central ERP functions by providing decision support to manage
relations and corporate issues. Product Lifecycle Management and Employee Lifecycle
Management are the components of the analytical layer.
Portal Layer/E-Business Layer
The E-business layer is kind of a portal of EESs. This layer consists of a set of
collaborative components. The collaborative components deal with the communication
and the integration between the corporate ERP II system and actors such as customers,
employees, external systems, and business partners.

Explain how you can improve the theoretical capacity of a process?
CLO1: Explain the

concepts,
theories, and
trends in ES and
their role in
supporting
business
operations
Answer:
The theoretical process capacity is the maximum sustainable throughput rate for the
process operating without interruption. The theoretical capacity of the process provides
an estimate of the waste in the system.

π - Theoretical capacity of the resource pool
πΆπ - Number of resource units in the pool
ππ - The unit load of the resource pool
According to the equation above, decreasing the unit load on the bottleneck resource
pool is one approach to improve the theoretical capacity of a process. Working faster,
working smarter, and using automation techniques are some of the stuff that can be
done to decrease the unit load of...
