ETHICAL CASE ANALYSIS

Introduction
The scenario on integrating personal information in unconnected computer database
creates some ethical issues. This was following the merging of DoubleClick and Abacus Direct
Corporation whereby the sensitive information of the customers from Abacus is acquired by
DoubleClick. This kind of information had been acquired by the initial company offline. This
information comprised of the telephone numbers, addresses, and names of the customers. The
information about the online sites that the customers visited, together with the time they
consumed in these sites, as well as their locations would be accessed by the new company.
Therefore, this raised the ethical issue concern associated with privacy since this kind of
information is confidential.
The Central Stakeholders
The main stakeholder in this scenario is the Abacus Direct Corporation since it is
directly involved in an ethical issue associated with privacy. This was because it was not
supposed to reveal the sensitive information about its customers to DoubleClick without their
consent. It, however, disregarded this aspect and made the personal information about its
previous customers to the new company. It is also said to have acquired most of its customers’
confidential information offline. This means that this was exclusive information which was of
high value to the customers and is supposed to be released only with the permission from the
customers themselves (Kshetri, 2014).
Technical/Professional Problem
The technical problem in this scenario involved the element of trailing and detecting the
customers by Abacus. It also had the element of storing sensitive information about its customers
