The F-statistic for equality of standard deviation is based on sample sizes n1=15 and n2=7 takes the value F=5.12. You want to find out if this is significant evidence of unequal population standard deviations at the 5%. Calculate the value of F*

Mar 3rd, 2015

Since n1=15, n2=7 degrees of freedom for F are 14 and 6

the 5% value for 14 and 6 degrees of freedom is 4.059963 =4.06

F 0.05,14,6 = 4.06

Since 5.12 > 4.06 we reject the null hypothesis and conclude that standard deviations are not equal.
