Description

Assume you were asked to deliver a presentation during the next required continuing education course for licensure. Your topic is working with high-risk adolescents. Prepare a voice-over PowerPoint presentation for the course. Begin by identifying the ethical dilemma for each of the following issues from the Social Work Code of Ethics. Develop a response to the issue and explain a model for ethical decision-making you would consider as a social worker. You must demonstrate an understanding of theories of human behavior and the social environment, and critically evaluate and apply this knowledge in the assessment of diverse clients and constituencies, including individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities specific to methods of assessment with diverse clients and constituencies to advance practice effectiveness. Be sure to integrate content that demonstrates how social workers understand that evidence that informs practice derives from multi-disciplinary sources and multiple ways of knowing. They also understand the processes for translating research findings into effective practice. Consider the role of technology to ethically and appropriately facilitate practice outcomes. As social workers must engage in collaborative interventions for clients, be sure to critique the effectiveness of the collaborative efforts in each case.

  1. You are a social worker in a high school, assigned to a team to prevent HIV and STDs. The school system recently approved a policy that condoms can be distributed only with written parental consent. This morning, a male student asked you for some condoms.
  2. Doreen, a 13-year-old Hispanic youth, has a history of running away and drug and alcohol experimentation. Her parents seem warm and accepting and want to help her. Near the end of your session, she confides in you that her step brother has been making sexual advances toward her. When she told her mother, she was told to forget it and that he was just a teenage boy. As the social worker, you realize that this interview should not be terminated, but you have another client waiting.
  3. Jimmy is a passive deeply disturbed early adolescent who lives in a residential facility for troubled youth. At times, he has had to be protected from other adolescents who bully him and take advantage of him. Jimmy is ready to be moved to a less restrictive home owned by the agency you work for. There is a more appropriate foster home he could move to, but you are told to have him remain at the residential facility even though there are older, more aggressive youth. The foster home is not owned by the agency and the staff wants to keep their numbers up in the residential facility.

Incorporate appropriate animations, transitions, and graphics as well as speaker notes for each slide. The speaker notes may be comprised of brief paragraphs or bulleted lists and should cite material appropriately. Add audio to each slide using the Media section of the Insert tab in the top menu bar for each slide.

Support your presentation with at least three scholarly resources. In addition to these specified resources, other appropriate scholarly resources may be included.

Length: 12-15 slides (with a separate reference slide)
Notes Length: 100-150 words for each slide

Be sure to include citations for quotations and paraphrases with references in APA format and style where appropriate. Save the file as PPT with the correct course code information.

Introduction

Intervening in the lives of young people and adolescents can be
challenging and social workers need to be knowledgeable on how
to deal with them.

It's crucial to help teenagers deal with adversity and build resilience
strategies, especially for those who are at risk of emotional or
behavioral disorders (Andy 2011)

Social workers not only deals with adolescents but with parents,
families, schools and neighborhoods.

There are different ways a social worker could help the Youth
overcome personal and private challenges through Social Case
Work, Social Group work, Community organization method, social
welfare method, social Action method and social work research.

In social work, ethical conduct is an essential — but complex— practice.
When faced with severe moral issues, social workers must frequently respond
swiftly and efficiently, especially when the outcome might have a significant
influence on their clients' lives.
As a result, it is critical for social workers to become familiar with both the
problems they may confront in the field and their profession's best practices.
(Cooper, 2020)
Social workers must adhere to a code of ethics since their work is founded
upon helping the community. Some of the codes include:
Human dignity and well-being are being uploaded and promoted. Individual
physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual integrity and well-being are
respected and protected.
Respecting a person's right to self-determination, which entails letting them
make their own life decisions and choices.
Respect a person's right to privacy, respect, dependability, and secrecy to
the fullest extent possible.

Ethical Dilemmas

The ethical dilemma lies in the male student asking for condoms without
the parent consent. Even though the school program is meant to
protect students form sexual transmitted diseases among other
consequences, the inability to get parental consent can be
challenging for a social worker.

There aren’t any codes or laws that apply in the scenario, however
