What were the economic struggles of European nations in a mercantilist competition? Who was doing well and who was failing?

A mercantile system termed bullionism was practiced and dominant in Europe in the 16th and 18th century. The primary purpose of bullionism was to augument state power. Finance is an exemplar of mercantile system(1662-83). The system implemented mercantile economic policies.

This system led to war in Europe. It motivated colonial expansion, commerce caused perpetual combat in peace and war among European nations- intra European wars.

France was an exemplar of mercantile system, it implemented economic policies that weakened foreign adversaries. The only problem to France was the economic greatness and power of the Dutch.
