Religion plays a fundamental role in the world. There are numerous religions in the world
with some been more dominant in given countries. The world’s largest religions include:
Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, and Muslim. However, these are not the only religions in the
world as the list is endless with different groups of people having differing religions (Patheos,
2010). Although these religions significantly differ from one another in their views, there is a
commonality among the religions: all the religion followers have strong faith in their religion and
are keen to fall all the religion teachings (Gifford, 2014). The believers also have a set of beliefs
that they follow and abide to. All these religions believe in the existence of a supernatural power
that is highly regarded and looked up to at all times.
There has been ongoing religion hostility among various religions in the world with each
religion perceiving it to be superior to the other religions. This religion hostility is more
prominent in some countries compared to others. In India, cases of vandalism have been on the
rise. Hindu extremists have vandalized many Christian areas as a revelation for Christian
intolerance in the country. The Hindu extremists attacked Guardian Angel cemetery in Goa
destroying approximately 11 crosses that were strewn on the road (Ferrao, 2017). This act of
religious extremists isn’t the only case reported across the globe as the ongoing Middle East
conflicts have been attributed to religion. Religion is regarded personal to most Middle East
individuals. For example, in Syria, the people’s choice of sovereign is between Islamic Republic
as well as Islamic State (Oren Kessler, 2016). The case in Syria shows the role of religion in
politics as well as the role of religion as a source of conflicts among people with differing views.
Religion plays an essential role in the society. Religion influence the actions of the
society and more so the government. The beliefs of a given religion dictate the way of life of the
society. In some religions such as Muslim, men are allowed to beat their wives. This act is

popular among the Muslim societies and such values are instilled at school. In the school
curriculum, textbooks teach the students that men are allowed to beat their wives as a way of
instilling discipline. For example, in Al-Hijrah School, the textbooks in the school advocate for
such actions against women ( Agerholm, 2017). The stories came to light after a 9-year old boy
died of an allergic attack in the school. Although the government ordered seize of the books the
practice of beating women is very popular in the Muslim culture and will take more than seizure
of school textbooks to eradicate the act.
Religion also directly influences matters facing a society or country at large. The issue of
gay marriages has taken a different toll in various religions. Although Christianity for starters
does not adorn the practice, there has been a change in their perception over the past years.
Eugene H. Peterson recently announced his support for gay marriages arguing these couples
portray spiritual lives similar to other couples. The latter is prominent minister at the
Presbyterian Church and his stand on the issues demarcates a change in the perception of gay
marriages in the society (MEDARDO, 2017). However, these views of the church on gay
marriages highly depend on the country. Russia’ religious extremists have taken a different
view on the issue of same sex marriages. A recent return to traditional values reveals a change
in the perception of issues such as gay marriages with increased hostility towards this group
reported in the country. The Orthodox Christian believers have taken a strict stern and the
extremists have occasionally attacked this marginalized group with the intention forcing gays
to commit suicide (Chichtchenkova, 2013). These attacks are carried out by religious extremists
in the country without police intervention that indicates the partnership of the government and
the church to eradicate these practices.

Religion also plays a fundamental role in influencing politics. This influence of religion
on politics is demonstrated by the demonstrators from National Black Church Initiative who
picketed the Qatar Embassy demanding president Donald Trump to act against Qatar and its
support for terrorism (Oren, 2016). Although Trump takes credit for the isolation of Qatar by
Arab nations, the demonstrators demands for more. These demonstrators have been ongoing
and calls for government to act that demarcate the role of religion in a country’s affairs.
Religions directly influence not only the society but the government as well. In
countries such as Russia, the government has joined hands with the church to eradicate
practices that are condoned in the society. However, some religious beliefs tend to vary from
one country to another. Christians in a given country hold different views on various aspects of
life from other Christians in a different country (Chichtchenkova, 2013). There are many
religions across the globe. However, the most dominant religions are Buddhism, Hinduism,
Christianity, and Muslim. There has been a prolonged conflict between religions regarding their
superiority. Some of these conflicts are prominent and have resulted to loss of life as reported in
Geo.
