example of a stream of consciousness writing: http://www.wikihow.com/Sample/Freewrite-on-Specific-Topic
My 1 minute stream:
Sometimes, I hate work. I mean literally want to scream and kick and tell people to go help themselves because I am tired of answering the same questions over and over again. Don't get me wrong, I love helping people, but why do I have to help people that don't help themselves? If they aren't under the age of two, they should be able to think at least a little bit, right? Take this one kid for example. He comes into the store and asks me if he can pick up the ferret. Let me be clear on this, there is a huge sign in all caps with red lettering that reads "DO NOT PICK UP FERRETS". As per our policy and procedure I have to tell him politely that they can not be picked up yet, and when he asks me a dozen questions as to why they can't be picked up, I have to smile politely and answer all of them.
Experience: This exercise was very helpful as it let me vent some steam, and it gave me an idea for a poem. However, I didn't realize exactly how angry I was until I actually wrote it out.
Try this with any topic at all, just make sure you only write for one minute, and add your thoughts at the end. Remember, stream of consciousness is your unfiltered thoughts, and it is very unstructured. No paragraphs or indentation is necessary. Have fun with it!
I don't have your book, so I don't know what samples you have. I would suggest picking one that is fun for you to read, and say that you like it the most because the content is interesting and it's easy to read. Hope that helps!
