I just read a little bit of it online. It appears to give
the same old, tired, conservative argument that it is up to the individual and
not your social economic background that determines success in life. While I
believe it to be true, to some extent, no one can deny that it is a lot easier
to succeed when you are born with everything already in your mouth than when
you don’t even know where your next meal is coming from. For example,
regardless of the exaggerations by the media, do you think George Bush Jr would
have become the President of the U.S. without his upper-class background? An
upper class kid regardless of intellect will often get a college education. At
the same time, a kid from the inner city is likely to get a college education.
Of course, there are individual exceptions. But that just means that those of
us who made it despite our lowly beginnings, had a lot more to overcome.
Please don’t forget to best, if you like this.
