Is correlation evidence that having a high family income causes one to have high SAT scores?

No. You can never say the cause of one thing being the way it is. You can say that family income is the explanatory factor. Having a high family income explains why those families might have higher SAT scores. But you can't say it's the cause. I don't know if that makes sense...?
