I uploaded the powerpoint with the list of theories that we can choose from for this paper. It can also be any theory from the textbook communicating in small groups principles and practices 11th edition by Steven A. Beebe and John T. Masterson
Application Paper #1
- Points 50
- Submitting a file upload
See the Ch. 2 PowerPoint
The paper will have three distinct parts. Please keep these separate in your writing.
Part 1: Explain
In this section you will explain what theory or concept you are using and the major parts of it. This is your chance to show me that you understand the theory.
Part 2: Apply
In this section you will apply the theory to a movie, TV show, or other specific group interaction (artifact). Take the major components of the theory and explain places where the theory shows up in the group. For example, you might explain and/or interpret major components of the movie, TV show, or other specific group with the help of your chosen theory.
This should not be a plot summary; the plot of the movie is only relevant as a reflection of theoretical principles discussed in class and the text.
Part 3: Evaluate
This is perhaps the most important part of the paper where you show me some critical thought regarding the analysis you’ve conducted. In this section you should address three major issues:
1. Did the theory fit the group interaction identified? Does the theory entirely account for your interpretation of what happened? This is not simply a ‘yes or no’ answer. You should support your answer with reasons why/why not the theory worked.
2. How did the theory help you understand what was going on in the small group?
-3-5 pages (I would caution against the minimum. You will need at least 3 pages to fulfill all the sections.
-No larger than 12 pt. in Times New Roman, 11 Calibri, 11 Arial)
— Turn in your paper on Canvas no later than 10pm on March 5th
Proofread. This is a formal college paper and you should read your paper before you submit it. I will be grading on your writing as well as the ideas in the paper.
