Casey has a rectangular garden that measures 9 m wide by 13 m long. She wants to increase the area to 192 m^2 by increasing the width and length by the same amount. What will be the width (shorter dimersion) of the new garden?

Assuming the width and length are increased by x,

Then (9+x)(13+x)=192

         9*13+22x+x^2=192

         x^2+22x-75=0

         (x+25)(x-3)=0

So x=3

Therefore the width of the new garden is 3+9=12 m.
