Assuming the length of the base is x, then the height of the triangle is 6+x

So the area=1/2*x(x+6)=56

                          x^2+6x=112

                     x^2+6x-112=0

                     (x+14)(x-8)=0

  Therefore x=8

The length of the base is 8m.
