Find the semi-major axis by taking the average of the perihelion and aphelion distances:

This obviously needs some actual numbers!

But the Semimajor axis is the average distance an object in orbit will be from the parent body. It will always be the average of the closest distance (perihelion) and farthest distance (aphelion).

So for example, is an object was in orbit with a perihelion distance of 1AU and an aphelion distance of 3AU, its semimajor axis would be average (1,3) = 2AU.
