Southwest Airlines is one of the leading Airlines in the United States and has been in
operation for many years posting huge profits for the last 30 years consecutively in business. The
company was started by Herbert Kelleher with other few business partners in 1971. In 2014 it
was the leading Airline in the United States domestic air travel and had always outperformed its
rivals. When other airlines were downsizing Southwest Airline has never laid off its employees,
so as it can increase its profits, management and employee relations is highly rated that why this
airline company outperforms others. When most airlines posted a negative return on Investment,
Southwest Airline posted an average Return On Investment above 15 per cent in the year 20002002. Southwest airlines have invested heavily in airport facilities, increased personnel and
technology. Due to this investment the company increased efficiency in it services that enhanced
it profit making. Since 2000, domestic passengers had increased from 72.6million passengers to
115.4 million passengers when other airlines declined (Hallowell, 2006).
From the first day, Southwest Airlines had pursued a low cost, low price, no frills
strategy to make it travels more affordable to customers and a broad segment. Whereby in 2013
the company introduced a completely redesigned Southwest mobile website and app that enabled
passengers to access and book their travel tickets through their mobile phones. With these
strategies, this company has been able to sustain its growth and maintaining a conducive
environment for all the stakeholders. Southwest Airline has experienced a few economic and
legal challenges but the company has managed to overcome and keep its development. Passenger
satisfaction has been the main goal thus Southwest Airline is looking forward to expanding its
global travel destinations to as many countries as possible
