• The department has a responsibility to promote the health
of the American public.
• It’s responsible for opioid addiction and overdose that
plagues the public.

• Opioid treat pain resulting from different illnesses. U.S. is largest
consumer of opioid drugs (Califf et al., 2016).
• Increased inefficiency of alternative pain medication has caused
higher opioid production (Hayes & Brown, 2012).
• Use of opioid prescriptions leads addiction and overdose.
• Opioid drug abuse and misuse is linked to increased production
and marketing (Hayes & Brown, 2012).
• Legislative loopholes allow sell of drugs unscrupulously (Secora
et al., 2014).
• Pharmaceutical companies ignore the health impacts of opioid
abuse (Secora et al., 2014).
