Harmful Effects of Smoking

Introduction

There are various initiatives all over the world that insist on the need to avoid smoking. It
is almost common knowledge that smoking is harmful to the health of smokers. There is no way
around it. Almost all organs of the body are affected in one way or another. It is also responsible
for various cancer types and other health complications. The risks include also those that are
around smokers that end up inhaling the smoke as secondhand smokers. Smoking is therefore a
dangerous activity due to the harmful side effects it has on the health of human beings with
complications compounding if it is done excessively.

Smoking and Dangers to Pregnancy

Smoking while pregnant increases chances of miscarriage and also affect the baby inside
the womb. There is the deficiency in the supply of oxygen to the growing child which may even
cause still birth. The smoke also affects the feeding habit of the mother thus when the diet is poor
the child in the womb won’t grow in the right way. It will cause the child to develop
abnormalities such as lack of healthy bones, lack of enough iron which may lead to future
complication when the child is born (Doherty). It is to say that no matter how the mother smoke,

There is an ingredient in tobacco called nicotine which has a capability of altering the

system very fast upon smoking, and this is what makes the smokers to feel more energized in a
short while. When the effects are wearing off, there will be side effects such as tiredness and the
urge of craving for more. That how one gets addicted to smoking and gets him or herself
smoking regularly. It has harmful effects even on financial matters.

The victim will use the money to buy cigarette unlimitedly thus using money which could
be used to earn a living. Most smokers who are in a family don’t manage the family in the right
way as they often smoke and forget about the responsibilities of the family. In most of
developing country, you will find persistent poverty in the families due to chronic smokers who
