Introduction
Buddhism forms a part of the various types of religions in the world that subscribes to the
belief in a higher power or being that is omnipotent and responsible for the existence of
everything that is there on planet earth. Buddhism is widely practiced in Asian countries more so
India, Pakistani and even some areas of China. The Buddhists in these countries and other
countries of the world assume different forms but have one common characteristic; each type
tries to lead the life of lessons learned from the life of the founder of Buddhism.
The religion was founded in the late periods of the 6th century B.C by a prince who was
also a warrior. The name of this prince was Siddhartha Gautama and was later known as ‘the
Buddha.' Legend has it that the prince was predicted to be a recluse, someone who withdraws
from the society by a soothsayer. In an attempt to prevent this prophecy from fulfillment, the
king provided his son, who was born at a place called Lumbini around the Himalayas with a
luxurious life. The life of the prince was guarded due to the prophecy, and his life revolved
mostly within the walls of the palace (Williams, 2008).
