Lesson 4 Journal # 7: Desire of Ages & Gospels

Assignment

Spending personal time with Jesus is more than just recognizing His existence, it is about taking the needed time to be in His presence. Keeping a spiritual journal is a simple way to record your thoughts, convictions, and prayers when spending time with God.

For this assignment, you will need a Bible and the book, Desire of Ages. The book is available free online by clicking the following link.

Your Task

  1. Each day you will spend some time with Jesus just to connect with Him.
  2. Read: During the week of July 24 to July 30, you will read chapters 43 to 49 of Desire of Ages (DA) and one passage you have personally selected from the Gospels. You are NOTrequired to read every page from DA however, your journal should be based on reflections from the chapters assigned. Read the Desire of Ages four days a week, and one passage from the Gospels the remaining day.
  3. Write: You will write at least one sentence for each weekday, sharing what has been meaningful to you during your time with Jesus and the reading. Make sure your journal includes the following details:
    • Give the date.
    • Provide the chapter number of DA or the Bible passage that you read.
    • Then write in 1-2 sentences what was meaningful in that chapter or passage.

Lesson 4 Project: Assignment 5

Assignment

From the beginning of the course, you will work on a project consisting of several parts, which is due in stages. The project will NOT be accepted if submitted at once at the end of the class.

The purpose of this assignment is to develop your analysis skills of the Gospels. By thinking about the meaning of a story and examining its components, you will better understand the purpose and meaning behind the narratives used in the Gospels.

Your Task

  1. Complete the analysis assignments. Full sentences are not required to answer these analysis assignments. As the main purpose is understanding the text, you can turn this in in points, which is often even better and clearer and makes it easier for me to grade.

Desire of ages and Gospel journal.
24th July
Today I decided to read Chapter 43-Barriers Broken Down of Desire of ages
Where I got to learn several virtues of life. In this chapter a Canaanite woman came to Jesus
asking for Mercy since her daughter was grievously vexed with a devil and she wanted Jesus to
heal her daughter since she heard of the prophet who could cure all manner of diseases. The
people of Canaan were of old Canaanite race, idolaters and hated and despised by the Jews
.However Christ did not reply to the woman’s situation immediately but still the woman never
gave up but eventually Jesus fulfilled her wishes.

Lesson learnt; God has the power over healing
We should be patient with our requests to God for He will answer accordingly.

Chapter 46-He was transfigured
Jesus called upon His three disciples Peter, John and James and went across the field to the
lonely mountainside. The light of the sun liners on top of the mountain and was filed with glory

wither they are going. Presently Christ told them they are not going any further. As the disciples
were asleep and Christ was persistent with prayers Moses upon the mount of transfiguration

witnessed Christ victory over sin and death. They received great light where they were given
clear insight into the work of the redeemer

Lesson learnt; Christ is the desired Messiah.

Chapter 49-At The feast of Tabernacle
The was a feast the closed gathering of the year. It was a time where people reflected their
goodness and mercy upon God. The Feast continued for seven days where people left their
homes and came to Jerusalem. The feast was not only the harvest thanksgiving but also the
memorial of God protecting care over Israel in the wilderness.as the sons of Joseph prepared to
attend the preparation they saw that Christ made no movement signifying His attention of
attending. Jesus taught in the temple day after day
