Question Description

Today, the user calls you to say that the computer is starting to run very slowly. A few hours later, the central processing unit (CPU) and disk are at 100% utilization at all times.

Final Answer

I would first check the Windows Task Manager to see what processes are taking up large chunks of memory and cpu time. This generally will point you in the direction of which applications/processes are causing issues. This can be reached by hitting ctrl + shift + esc.

Unfamiliar processes can be started on start up or by other applications that are meant to be closed. Users should make sure only processes they recognize are running.
