Suppose you have installed Windows 8 on a user’s computer four (4) days ago. At the time, it functioned normally and performed optimally.

I would first check the Windows Task Manager to see what processes are taking up large chunks of memory and cpu time. This generally will point you in the direction of which applications/processes are causing issues. This can be reached by hitting ctrl + shift + esc.

Unfamiliar processes can be started on start up or by other applications that are meant to be closed. Users should make sure only processes they recognize are running.
