The primary purpose of proposing a public initiative focused on the reduction and
prevention of obesity is to bring up healthy individuals in Texas as well as foster a variety of
foods that can assist in preventing obesity such as water, fruits, and vegetables. The public health
initiative seeks to create awareness among the Texans concerning obesity problems as well as
strategies that can be utilized in preventing the issues. The initiative is also veered towards
educating people on how they can select healthy foods that assist them in avoiding obesity.
Further, the public initiative is meant to make the people of Texas aware of what steps they
should take to reduce and prevent obesity such as involvement in a lot of physical activities,
reduce intake of sugar and high calories. In a bid to fulfill each of these objectives, goals and
purpose the public health initiative requires funding to make the plan a success. This paper
attempts to describe the alternative funding sources that can help in making sure the initiative
focused on reducing and preventing obesity is effective in Texas.
The majority of the public health programs receive funding through a combined effort of
the local, federal and state dollars. In the same way, the public initiative directed towards
reducing obesity will obtain its funds from a combination of the dollars coming from the state,
federal and local level. According to the organizations such as the centers for disease control and
prevention (CDC) claim that the public health department does not receive enough funding to
support programs that are involved in functions such as prevention and reduction of obesity
