For?Assignment 4, due to past complaints of having to view all of the films and write about all of the films in class, I have reduced the minimum to a viewing and writing of 2 films. All of the films do not need to be viewed.

The paper will identify one or more of the three social institutions discussed in the films. These include family, religion or education.

From there, you will note the selected video and what social institution is portrayed in the film.

Then, you will address why the social institution is important.

With each film, you will apply the three sociological perspectives of functionalist, conflict and interactionist perspective.

Here, you will:

  • Identify any relevant models of power structure or political behavior which might be influential.
  • Explain the functionalist, conflict, and interactionist perspectives on the family, religion and education. Which perspective does each film use to discuss the institution? Explain specific examples from the videos from the viewpoint of the designated theoretical approach.

Afterwards, you will provide a conclusion that summarizes the main ideas of the essay and describe how these institutions have influenced you.
