The education has changed over the years and is geared towards making the learner
apply the relevant knowledge that is required in the job market. The Stem education is an
approach that encourages technical approach of learning through practical activities that
ensure the students appreciate the theoretical concepts. The new system has brought concepts
that are practical thus posing a challenge and equal measure a platform for the learners to
interact more through group discussions. By equipping the students with the relevant
knowledge especially in the field of engineering and sciences will aid in the technology world
advancement that will drive the manufacturing sectors thus providing more job opportunities
and sources of knowledge of starting business ventures. (Bybee, 2010) Some of the students
have shown a positive and negative response to the STEM education.
Most of the manufacturing sector industries provide the learners with the
opportunities to learn more about the theoretical knowledge they have learned in the
classroom. The practical nature of some courses in the science sector and mathematical will
best fit in the Stem system as this will encourage more research for the quest of new
knowledge. I fully support the stem system as I see the future in its application to the
students. Looking at what has been happening in the education sector calls the stakeholders to
relook into the system as it's not benefiting the students. Most of the teachings are basically
theoretical works without more practical lessons. I believe when the learner is taught
practically is easy for him to grasp and remember for a long period. It is easy to forget
theories as the mind is not put into constant practice that will improve the skills of
remembrance. From the various researches that have been conducted it’s evidential that
practical activities in education equip the learner with more skills as compared to the
theoretical teachings only.
I propose that schools and the higher institutions of learning to adopt the
methodologies of the stem as this will ensure the best quality of education in the states.
Ignorance should be shunned away, and people should start taking the responsibility of the
new happening in the education sector. Change must be embraced in the education sector so
as the stakeholders can brain storm on the best approach to the stem education. The
universities play a part in the producing the workforce of the country thus must embrace
courses that are practical that will drive the health sector and manufacturing to new levels of
sustainability. (Bybee, 2010) The syllabuses must be changed to ones that benefit the entire
education system with the aim of putting sanity to the education system. The promotional
campaign, especially by the government, must steer the process by encouraging the
employers such as the manufacturing firms like Ford and even hospitals in giving attachment
to the fresh graduates and colleges.
The education is meant to steer the teaching of relevant skills and knowledge to the
students so they can use it in creating wealth rather than rely on being employed. People have
widely accepted the education system and have started to appreciate it’s as it has reduced the
dependency levels of the students after completing their higher education levels can now start
their consultancy firms and even promote innovations that drive the economy. People fear
changes and that is why they are accustomed to the old way of doing things in just impacting
much knowledge to the students without looking at how this will equip and sharpen their
skills in the job market. (Sanders, 2009). That is why you will find someone with a degree in
engineering but when employed lack the skills of doing the job. In comparison, you will find
a student with a diploma has many skills in the engineering sector thus is easily employed
and fits in the job market. The female and male students have different perceptions
concerning the Stem education, but in most cases, you will find the male being comfortable.
(National Research Council, 2011). There is the need of demystifying the myth of male
being best in sciences and female being best in humanities. There should be equal measure in
both as this will encourage the promotion of applicability especially in the science section
where the female can excel more due to their nature of inquisitive. They will question
knowledge more and challenge the male students thus both will work hard in creating new
inventions that will revolutionize the world.
Some of the courses that are found in the learning institutions need review as they are
not contributing any benefits to the community. Courses like anthropology should be changed
to practical like encouraging research work on the excavation of fossils where students learn
practical of dating fossils instead of just writing notes in the classes. From the onset of the
lower education, the student capabilities should be identified with the aim of focussing on the
strength of the child. In most cases, you will find the current education system continue
pumping unnecessary knowledge to the kids even if they are not having much of interest. By
identifying the talent of the students from the onset will ensure they major and perfect on that
and in the end, they will make some remarkable contribution to nation building. (Sanders,
2009). Technology is making great changes to the world today, and it’s important for the
education sector to adopt appropriate technology that will change the way education is
offered. The universities have adopted the e-learning programs that encourage more digital
literacy interaction forums. Some of the practical lessons can be through demonstrations in
the classroom through technology applications. An example is the titration process of
chemistry in the laboratory is easily taught to the learner through a practical motion in the
lab, and even in the computer thus students will not easily forget.
Organizing such events such as the mathematical and science congresses aid the
students in exchanging and show casing brilliant idea projects that should be adopted. These
competitions encourage students competing and bringing the best skills in them such as
project construction skills. The teachers and the moderators of the Congress must have a clear
cut agenda that will encourage the students in professionally analyzing their projects. Inviting
the investors to such forums of students competing is important as they will fetch the good
business and science ideas and later sponsor them by way of nurture for the large scale
production in the future if viable. The government ministers have the duty of regulating the
education that is offered especially in the private sector as it at times may not offer the
requirements that are set by the education board’s regulators. That is the reason as for why
you will find lots of degrees that are not validated in the job markets with the owners even
don’t know the content of what they learned in the higher institutions. (National Research
Council, 2011)
The issue of students not liking mathematics is becoming the talk of debate of many
scholars. Especially the female generation fear mathematics and is due to the fallacy that
mathematics is meant for the male domination. In the equal measure, this is not true as we
have seen nowadays, we are having engineering women and even lecturers with professors in
mathematics. The issue of the peer influence in the disliking of mathematics is a problem as
friends might influence the other not to like the subject. Parents and guardian play big roles in
the student choice of course and in most case you will find that if the parents did not like
mathematics, they will, in the end, influence the child not to undertake a course that has lots
of mathematical concepts and applications. Some teachers discourage the learners in pursuing
the mathematic course during teaching lessons by giving them wrong advice and remarks. The
concept of phobia in the student that mathematics is a hard subject is a contributing factor to
the students shunning away from taking courses that have maths. (Scarpello, 2007).
In our daily life, both at work and home mathematics are applied intensively thus is
important people accept mathematical subjects in schools. Accounting for home expenses
requires some knowledge of maths thus learning maths is not an option. Even if students
think they do not need the knowledge of maths is a total lie as this will make their future
accounting skills being jeopardized. It’s critical for the dislike of maths to be discouraged
among the students. There should be an encouragement in most of the courses to be taken by
promoting maths as a bonus and requirements. (National Research Council, 2011) I do not
think that students dislike maths as this is just some form of discouragement that people need
to shun away. The mind requires setting that accepts how the concept of figures work and by
students locking the mind to accept the mathematical subject is the recipe for failure in the
subject. The teachers and tutors are urged to encourage the maths learning by dedicating most
of their time in aiding the weak students to improve in the subject.
The foundation of the student since the lower class level is important for the future
grasping of concepts. A student who gets good foundation when young is bound to excel well
in the future. By encouraging the learners as they grow from lower cadres to love maths will
ensure they appreciate and embrace the subject concepts. By studying the trends of failing
students in maths, it’s because they never got good start levels as they were learning in the
various institutions. In some cases, the teachers contribute to the dislike levels in the students.
Just Imagine finding a teacher teaching in class, and himself does not understand well the
concepts of the maths syllabus. He will end up teaching the learners to wrong thing that in the
end will make them hate the subject. The level of education discrimination has greatly
contributed to the students disliking the maths subjects. You will find some of the public
schools lacks the resources that aid in the study of the subject like good teachers and books
not forgetting practical classrooms. Learning in such kind of environment will discourage the
learners from learning the subject. The private schools provide all the resources thus students
in the private schools will love maths as opposed to few in the public schools.
Conclusively I would like to concur with the notion that students dislike mathematics
because they are not encouraged since they are young to love it and nurtured throughout. To
some extent, the females are the one who dislikes it the most due to the fallacy of male being
the dominant species with the brain of handling hard calculations. Measures must be taken in
the education sectors if we want to see our students become important and additional value
resources to the society through appropriate education enactment.

Culminating Experience EDG 500-21
Your culminating experience will be a paper (1500 - 100 words) which synthesizes three aspects of
our class into a paper about a topic of your choice. You may choose these three from the following
four areas:
Text, videos, and in-class discussions
Your practicum experiences, if you have been in one in a prior class
or any in-school experience
The midterm paper you wrote
Your group presentation (or that of another group).
An example, therefore, would be a paper about inclusive education, which shows you learned
something from a history video that mentioned legislation that fostered equality of opportunity, a pres-
entation that some colleagues did, and an experience in an earlier practicum that pointed out the
health effects of poverty. Note: this is to be an integrated assignment, not three separate short
papers. Also Note: text, videos, and discussions constitute ONE area. No matter how many
of them you reference, you still need two other sources.
It's not necessary to include a bibliography as such, but, at the end of the paper, list the three
sources that you used. This paper should be emailed to me by 11:59 PM on Wednesday, August 8.
